What is the ACT?

The ACT is a standardized exam used for admissions into colleges and universities. It is administered at national test sites several times each year. Students register for this exam online and must adhere to ACT deadlines. To register or to learn more about the ACT, visit https://www.act.org/. Juniors who earn a high test score between September 1st of their junior year and June 30th following their junior year, as well as a high GPA and class rank, are eligible to be names as an Illinois State Scholar during senior year.

The ACT consists of four tests:
English: 75 questions; 45 minutes
Math: 60 questions; 60 minutes
Reading: 40 questions; 35 minutes
Science: 40 questions: 35 minutes

The ACT offers an optional writing test consisting of one prompt and 30 minutes to compose an essay. Special Note: All Education Majors are encouraged to take the writing exam as this exam can replace the Basic Skills Test, a test once required for all education majors. Students should consult their college admissions representative or counselor for additional information.
